An icon of Miami’s storied Coconut Grove hamlet, the all-suite Mayfair House Hotel & Garden (formerly The Mayfair Hotel) will reopen its doors in August 2022 after a $50 million revitalization project.
The Mayfair House Hotel & Garden Vision
In August 2021, Canadian asset management company Brookfield partnered with New York interior designer Matthew Goodrich to bring next-level luxury to the property while honoring the vision of Kenneth Treister, the renowned architect behind the 1985 original.
The hotel’s signature exotic artistic flair is being both renewed and carefully preserved throughout the property, particularly in treasured details such as its hand-carved wood and hand-painted tile features.
Goodrich commissioned local artists to design pieces for the suites as well as the common areas. Bright colors, lush foliage, and open spaces create a lavish experience that pays homage to The Grove’s Caribbean influence. It also revives the fresh, tropical ambiance that has become somewhat rare in the wake of the ultra-modern trend that’s swept across Miami’s luxury hotel scene.
The Blissful Mayfair Suites
With only 179 suites – the largest accommodations in Coconut Grove — the property remains a boutique experience, yet the options are plentiful. In keeping with the hotel’s original vision, each suite is named for a tropical plant or flower, and the original hand-painted name tiles remain. Suites range up to 1,124 square feet, and all include a patio or balcony. Spa rooms feature deep-soaking tubs, and some also offer open-air rain showers! Several units have additional bedding and sleeper sofas to accommodate families, girlfriend getaways, or any larger group that wants or needs to room together.
The Fun Bits
The rooftop houses a pool and the SipSip (Caribbean slang for gossip) Calypso Rum Bar, which will pair Caribbean fare with its rum-based cocktails. The primary restaurant, Mayfair Grill, will debut a fully overhauled open-hearth, wood-fired menu inspired by Mexico’s Sonora region. An additional 8,500 square feet will serve as event space, and fitness devotees will be impressed by the 1,600-square-foot fitness center.
The soul of Mayfair House is reflected in its vibrant and inspiring gardens filled with lush foliage, cascading fountains and pools, fanciful copper lighting, and sculptural architectural enhancements.
And, aaaaah… the location! The Mayfair House has an enviable address in the heart of the famously walkable Grove community, across the street from CocoWalk open air mall.
